Fela 86

Event Design

To honor the legacy of Fela Aníkúlápó Kuti, the father of Afrobeat and an enduring social and political icon, we curated Fela 86—a celebratory event hosted at Jumbi in the heart of Little Lagos. Designed as a multi-sensory tribute, the event brought together music, food, film, and gifts to commemorate what would have been Fela’s 86th birthday.

Inspired by Fela’s bold, unapologetic spirit, the branding for Fela 86 carried an Afro-modern aesthetic with nods to the energy of 1970s album art and protest posters. Digital and print assets incorporated bright, rhythmic patterns and layered textures reminiscent of his music and activism.
